How to make pottery step by step:

Pottery Industry

There is a primitive method, in which the craftsman used his hands to turn clay into pottery by using fire. These steps are as follows:

  • The craftsman brings the clay, then hits it with a plasterer stick that softens it to make it suitable for kneading and shaping.
  • The craftsman then prepares a pool with a diameter of 3 meters, in which he puts 35 juffiers of red clay, and 65 juffiers of white and green clay, then pours water on it, and leaves it for two hours.
  • Then the worker descends into the pond to mix the water and mud well, and to get rid of any impurities that are present by using a pickaxe.
  • Then the filtered mud was distributed in three rectangular pools by placing a strainer at the opening of the pool, then pushing the mud into the three pools.
  • The clay is left in rectangular pools to solidify, and then the craftsman takes the quantity that he will use in making pottery.
  • The craftsman molds the prepared clay to his liking by using his hands.
  • Then he puts the pottery in the sun until it dries completely.
  • Then he puts the crockery in the home oven for a day at a very high temperature.
  • Ready-made molds can also be used in the manufacture of many shapes of pottery utensils through the use of the wheel that needs precision and mastery to be used to produce distinctive shapes.

Many are preoccupied with the method of making pottery and how to make pottery with the steps, as its manufacture begins by purifying the clay from the impurities in it, then the craftsman grinds the clay well using his feet, and then the craftsman begins to shape the pots.

The drying process of pottery is one of the most important steps that must be taken into account while making pottery, as pottery is exposed to damage and cracking if this step fails during its manufacture, especially in pottery made of fine-pored silt.
